Exploring Computer Science (ECS)
Five-day residential cohort program for Oregon high school teachers interested in teaching a foundational CS (computer science) course. No prior CS experience necessary!
Workshop Details : Exploring Computer Science is a year-long, research-based, high school foundational computer science curriculum supported by a teacher professional development program shown to broaden participation in computing. The teacher professional development program begins with a 5-day residential program held in Bend that is facilitated by peer teachers and uses a cohort model to promote instructional sharing of techniques and best practices. The program continues throughout the year with additional remote meetings of the cohort.
Who is it for? Oregon high school educators who are certified in any subject and interested in teaching ECS at their school.

ECS Refresh
This two-day ECS Refresh for Experienced Teachers (ECS Refresh) is a residential cohort program for experienced ECS teachers to explore updated lessons in curriculum version 10.
Workshop Details: Ready to reconnect with your Oregon ECS community and dig deeper into what makes this work matter? Join us for a two-day ECS Refresher where we’ll explore ECS v.10—co-designed with teachers like you—and its expanded focus on connecting computing to students’ identities, communities, and society. Together, we’ll lean into inquiry-equity-CS concepts through new lessons that empower students to learn and create with computing, exploring topics such as human-computer interaction, algorithms, data, programming, and AI while examining the questions and considerations that shape how these technologies impact our lives. Whether you want to sharpen your pedagogy, exchange ideas with fellow ECS educators, or simply recharge, this is your space to grow. Come ready to learn, reflect, and reimagine what’s possible in your classroom.
Who is it for? Oregon high school educators currently teaching ECS who have not had professional development for the updated version 10 curriculum.
Participating Teacher Benefits: Daily stipend for professional development in addition to support for food and lodging.
Teacher Leader - Action Research
Workshop Details: What if you had the time, space, and support to dig into the questions that spark your curiosity as a computer science educator? At CS for Oregon, we’re inviting ECS teachers from across the state to join us in a year-long Action Research project – a collaborative journey of inquiry, experimentation, and reflection. This is your chance to explore the challenges and possibilities you see in your own classroom, try new approaches, and discover what works for your students. You’ll be part of a community of curious educators asking pedagogical questions together and learning by doing in your own classroom.
Who is it for? If you have participated in ECS professional development and have taught ECS for at least two years, we’d love for you to apply.
What is required? The commitment includes two in-person days in Bend (July 30-31, 2026) and quarterly online meetings throughout the academic year.
Participating Teacher Benefits: We value your time and expertise, so stipend and room and board are provided.
CS Equity Workshop for School Leaders
Workshop Details: Gain a deeper understanding of the barriers and opportunities for implementing equitable computer science education in schools and districts in preparation for meeting Oregon’s Statewide CS Implementation Plan by 2027-28.
Who is it for? Oregon School and District Administrators, Teachers on Special Assignment, Curriculum Directors, Counselors, and other equity-focused school leaders.
Participating Leader Benefits: Gain strategic advantage aligned with the Oregon CS Implementation Plan requirement to offer CS education starting in 2027-28. Network with other school leaders passionate about making CS education accessible to all students. Receive a professional stipend for eligible participants. Receive lodging and meals.
The Thinking in Computational Thinking for K-5 (CT K-5)
Teachers will learn the fundamentals of computational thinking (CT) and discover its applications across core subjects. They will learn how to integrate CT concepts into their curriculum, enhancing student understanding and critical thinking skills.
Workshop Details: Join us for “The Thinking in Computational Thinking for K-5 Educators,” a 2-day professional development experience designed to introduce you to computational thinking. In this PD, you’ll learn the fundamentals of computational thinking and discover its applications across core subjects like math, science, and language arts. You’ll learn how to integrate computational thinking concepts into your curriculum, enhancing student understanding and critical thinking skills. Plus, uncover future opportunities to further explore and participate in this groundbreaking work.
